Quality made in Rwanda: Tea and coffee producers tap into lucrative niche markets

Ideal climatic conditions, fertile soils and a landscape of hills and mountains - this makes Rwanda predestined for the cultivation of high-quality tea and coffee. However, the necessary certificates to access international markets, such as organic, Fairtrade, ISO 9001 and/or HACCP, are often lacking. Producers in Rwanda often do not have the financial resources and the specific know-how to obtain these certificates.

We support coffee and tea producers in Rwanda to improve the quality of their products and to obtain the quality certificates required for international export. We therefore work with partners from the private sector, development cooperation and the local quality infrastructure.

Rwandan businesses are supported, for example, with training on quality requirements and cultivation methods, as well as initial financing for certification. At the same time, we are enhancing local advisory and certification services.

Rwandan companies can thus enter new markets and achieve higher prices for their products. The organic cultivation of coffee and tea also ensures that natural resources are conserved, and agricultural productivity is maintained in the long term.
